Straight From Home

My two girls have attended Lighthouse for the past year - straight out of a homeschooling background. Their adjustment to gr 5 and 7 classes were far easier than I had anticipated... my younger daughter in particular whom I thought would have a harder time was embraced by her class and teacher and lovingly carried through the year despite her anxieties and math challenges. The girls now say they would never go back to homeschooling and LOVE their school. I've had to go back into the work force to help pay for their education, but it has been worth every penny and the stresses and energies lost from working again out of the home. Last weeks' AGM was amazing to me.... and brought tears to my eyes when I saw the genuine love the staff has for the children. My husband who has a tough time fitting in with most christians, loves being at the school... whether its with the staff or other parents - as he feels the genuineness and contentment/happiness within the people he meets.

I will be singing its (Lighthouse's ) praises to people I know in my church as well as the homeschooling community. Let's fill those classrooms (well atleast somewhat... gotta say I like the small class ratio's for my kids). : )

Common Ground

I stand at the edge of the parking lot looking at the playground filled with children and PARENTS. Yes, I said parents. It’s 3:15 and the parking lot is full. By 4:00 you would expect it to be empty That is rarely the case at LCA. Often, kids and their parents are still outside chatting, playing, and even praying. How I love this school community.

It is not just a “neighborhood” school. Most of us drive our children to school from far away. You would think this would not allow us too connect with each other very often but the exact opposite is the case. Just this morning a group of moms met for bible study. We shared, prayed and cried together for our families. I so value the lifelong friendships that form between our children, teachers, and parents.

The bonds I am experiencing are precious. I am amazed at how the board, staff and teachers love and care for their students. The supporting families and parents are also tender with our children, and our kids stand out as a wonderful bunch.

This support system is an integral part of LCA and it’s amazing. The diversity of our backgrounds seem unimportant because we have a unity of spirit. We are a family with intimate relationships. I thank the Lord that I have LCA and it’s good and faithful family.

Summer is approaching way too quickly Oh well, at least we’ll have beach days and get togethers to see us through until September.
