Play-Based Learning, Growth-Mindset, Blended Learning

Elementary

LCA primary students start their first years of school here with a blend of phonics-based language instruction, hands-on math exploration and Play-based learning to support foundation concepts and build social skills, along with lots of encouragement and fun.

Middle School

Middle school is framed around the concept of learning, exploring and experiencing different things in order to help students discover their interests and build in them a growth mindset.

High School

High school students follow a cutting-edge individualized blended learning model, so they can meet all their academic requirements while also focusing on electives that are specific to their goals after they complete high school.

We offer the ability for your child to be known, to have their unique abilities and gifts highlighted and encouraged while getting support in the areas that are more challenging for them. In elementary, students learn foundational concepts and build socials skills in a supportive, creative and hands-on environment. As students grow into the middle and high school years, they have an opportunity to not only try new things through a system of exploratory classes, but also develop a unique time table that suits their interests and abilities. In the High School, we have a cutting-edge blended learning model so that students can meet their academic requirements, while also focusing on electives that are specific to their goals after they complete high school.

Children here are known, valued and appreciated. Families here are welcome. We believe in the need to partner with parents in order to encourage a God-centered life of service, health and faith. We desire to team with parents to enable their child to grow and mature into the person God intended them to be.

Elementary School

From Play

LCA primary students start their first years of school here with a blend of phonics-based language instruction, hands-on math exploration and Play-based learning to support foundation concepts and build social skills, along with lots of encouragement and fun. We believe that learning needs to be engaging, personal, creative and collaborative. Yes, our teachers do teach, but they also facilitate, encourage and collaborate with the students.

To Project

Play-based learning – Students are introduced to play-based learning by having opportunities to explore, investigate, problem solve, and think creatively. Play leads to language acquisition, literacy, and mathematics, as well as the development of social, physical, and emotional skills. Students are given opportunities to self-regulate, engage in the inquiry process, and to share their learning with others. They are given control over how and what they play with. A typical “play time” can include having groups of students coding, putting on a fashion show, composing a song, building a complex train track, and setting up an ideal school day.

Middle School

From Exploration

Middle school is framed around the concept of learning, exploring and experiencing different things in order to help students discover their interests and build in them a growth mindset. Students are given opportunities for hands-on learning by building and completing real world projects. These projects are led by specialist teachers, who have a background, training and experience in the area they are teaching. For example, our tech teacher has a background in IT, our Culinary Arts teacher owns her own food prep business, and our trades teacher has training and experience in construction.

To Growth

Growth-Mindset – In contrast to a fixed mindset that believes one’s abilities and intelligence are set, static and unchangeable, a growth mindset is the underlying belief that one can learn, can grow and can improve. Encouraging a growth mindset in students, is a foundational life skill. Dr. Dweck, one of the founding researchers of mindset development, states that, “When students believe they can get smarter, they understand that effort makes them stronger. Therefore, they put in extra time and effort, and that leads to higher achievement.” It is the ability to plan, practice, critique, plan again, practice again and critique again continuing in the mindset of improvement and higher achievement. This then translates into a program for high school that will prepare them for post school life.

High School

Customizing

High school students follow a cutting-edge individualized blended learning model, so they can meet all their academic requirements while also focusing on electives that are specific to their goals after they complete high school. By high school we hope that students have had lots of different experiences in order to hone their interests and discover their abilities in order to have a better idea of their future goals after high school. LCA high school students are supported with an individualized program to prepare them for life after school.

Equipping

Blended learning is a mix of face-to-face instruction, online learning, and the ability for the student to have input into the design of their program as it pertains to direction, scope and timeline. Students work within a cohort group with a team of a teacher/coach and educational assistant. Student are also assigned a lead teacher that supports them for any specialized elective-based course tracks they are on. Within the blended model, is an online component that allows students to take a broader range of academic courses. Students build their individual program based on career goals, interests, real world projects and timeline commitments.
